Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to

  • Compute indefinite integral by hand using different methods
  • understand the idea of definite integral
  • use definite integral to find area, volume, arclength, etc.
  • determine improper integral and study of their convergenges. 

 

Tentative Course Schedule

  • Week 1. Antiderivative. Indefinite Integral. Substitution. 

    "The two questions, the first that of finding the description of the curve from its elements, the second that of finding the figure from the given differences, both reduce to the same thing. From this it can be taken that the whole of the theory of the inverse method of the tangents is reducible to quadratures." (Leibniz 1673)

  • Week 3. Integral of Rational Functions. Partial Fraction Decomposition. Worksheet 1.
  • Week 4. Integration of Trigonometric Functions.
  • Week 5. Trigonometric Substitution. Integration of Irrational Functions.
